Founded in 1937, the DPYO is selected from the regionвЂ™s finest young musicians, and is one of the nation's oldest and most distinguished youth orchestra programs. He currently holds the position of Northeast division vice-president of the College Orchestra Directors Association.Д¬urrently in his 21st year as conductor of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (DPYO) he mentors many of the most gifted high school musicians in our region.

His reputation as a conductor and as a teacher has been acknowledged through invitations by competitive audition to conduct UD ensembles at conferences of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) in Cincinnati and Columbus, and at the College Band Directors National Association regional conference in Michigan. Reynolds has been an invited presenter at state and national professional conferences, including the 2019 College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA) national conference in Boston, 2018 CODA national conference in Los Angeles, and 2014 Wisconsin State Music Association conference in Madison. In recent seasons he has conducted Dayton Opera productions of Verdi's La Traviata, Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, Mozart's The Magic Flute, Menotti's The Consul, Gilbert and SullivanвЂ™s The Pirates of Penzance and PucciniвЂ™s La Boheme.Дr.

In addition, he has conducted the DPO in classical, pops, family and rock series concerts. Reynolds collaborated with DPO Music Director, Neal Gittleman in planning and conducting the DPOвЂ™s SPARK (School Partners with Artists Reaching Kids) program, and shared insight into the world of conducting with young people in classrooms throughout Dayton and surrounding communities. Annually, he conducts the DPO in its Young People's and Magic Carpet concerts, reaching thousands of students across the Dayton metropolitan area. Reynolds, the University Orchestra performs a rich variety of works for string orchestra in the fall semester and full symphony orchestra in the spring semester, and collaborates in choral performances on the UD campus.Дr. Under his direction the Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs a broad spectrum of great works for wind ensemble and concert band and maintains a high profile on campus. Reynolds is the recipient of the 2020 University of Dayton Faculty Award in Teaching. Patrick Reynolds is a professor of music at the University of Dayton where he conducts the University Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and teaches courses in instrumental conducting.
